BENEFITING: Sanctuary for Families
ORGANIZER: Sanctuary for Families
EVENT DATE: Nov 01, 2015
For the past year, Merriam has volunteered as a reading and math tutor and as a mock interview volunteer with Sanctuary's Economic Empowerment Program -- New York's first career services training center designed to support the unique needs of survivors of gender violence and help survivors achieve economic independence. Insipred by her clients' determination and confidence, she is running the New York City Marathon on November 1 with her sister, Joanna, to help Sanctuary for Families empower thousands of adults and children to move from fear and abuse to safety and stability.
Sanctuary for Families is dedicated to the safety, healing and self-determination of victims of domestic violence and related forms of gender violence. As New York's leading service provider and advocate for survivors of domestic violence, sex trafficking, and related forms of gender violence, Sanctuary for Families transforms lives through a comprehensive range of services. Last year alone, Sanctuary served over 10,000 individuals through legal and clinical services, economic empowerment support, shelter and programming for children and youth.
