BENEFITING: Sanctuary for Families
ORGANIZER: Sanctuary for Families
EVENT DATE: Nov 01, 2015
On November 1st I will be returning to New York for the first time since our big move out west to run the New York City Marathon!
Many of you might be confused reading the previous sentence, and I don't blame you because it is widely known that I am not what most people would call "a runner." In fact, very early on in my soccer career I gravitated toward the position of goalie (not a coincidence!) and as an adult, my exercise of choice is a group workout class that feels more like a dance party.
But during my second year of grad school, I interned for an incredible organization in New York called Sanctuary for Families that provides shelter, counseling, legal services, and job training to over 10,000 survivors of domestic violence and sex trafficking each year. It was a wonderful place to hone my clinical social work skills and I was constantly in awe of the dedicated staff and the the way that so many clients were able to put their lives back together with the help of Sanctuary services. When the opportunity arose to join Sanctuary's 2015 marathon team, I was so eager to support the organization that I momentarily forgot about my aversion to running and signed up immediately.
Even though my marathon time on November 1st might not break any world records, I am tremendously excited about this opportunity to give back to an organization that has given so much to me and gives even more to so many others. I have set a goal of raising $3000 for Sanctuary for Families through my marathon fundraising and it would mean the world to me if you would consider supporting me in achieving this.
Thank you so much!
