EVENT DATE: May 27, 2017
Team Captain set-up Instructions can be found at www.slofnl.com
San Luis Obispo High School's 24-Hour Relay Challenge, in partnership with Friday Night Live of SLO County, is in its 26th year! This amazing community event was launched to bring awareness and raise funds for prevention and counseling to support young people facing issues of risk for substance use and mental health problems. Funds raised through Relay support on-campus counseling for students with health needs, as well as student-led prevention programs and education.
● In SLO County, youth binge drink and use marijuana at rates higher than their peers in CA
● GPA is negatively impacted by substance use. Regular marijuana users are almost 5x more likely to have mostly D’s & F’s than non-users
● Early Intervention Helps! Students with greater depression symptoms are more likely to report difficulty concentrating in class and completing homework
● Schools offering more youth development and prevention leadership opportunities have higher college acceptance rates
The Challenge? Teams of 10, for 24 hours straight, take turns running or walking one mile at a time; while the SLOHS football stadium is converted into a festival of live music, entertainment, games, food, and the spirit of teamwork!
