ORGANIZER: The S.L.E. Lupus Foundation
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
My parents spent most of their time in the hospital and surrounded by doctors in the weeks following my birth. However, the long days and restless nights were not due to their newborn child, but to my Mother's failing health. After numerous tests and multiple professionals, my Mom was diagnosed with Lupus in October 1992.
Lupus is a terminal auto-immune disease, which causes arthritic like pain, sever bruising and organ failure. 1.5 million people in the United States live with Lupus today, and 90% of those are women. There is no known cure.
My Mother, and best friend, has been in remission since 2011. Doctor's have told my family repeatedly that her case is a 'miracle'. The New York Hospital for Special Surgery has performed tests and studies to help them try to understand her battle. This 'miracle' has been the single biggest blessing in my life.
I am running the 2016 New York City Marathon for those girls and boys whose mothers have not seen the triumph over this disease that I have. For the women whose pain has restricted them from being able to hold their newborn child. For the future of those living with Lupus and their families. And most importantly - for the cure of Lupus. Please join me and my team in the fight against Lupus.
