June 19, 2017
On June 16th I will be participating for my 3rd year in The Longest Day Challenge, which is a team event to raise funds and awareness for the Alzheimer’s Association. Held annually on the summer solstice, this sunrise-to-sunset event symbolizes the challenging journey of those living with the disease and their caregivers. Teams are encouraged to create their own experience as they fundraise and participate in an activity they love to raise awareness of the disease. I will again be joining magnificent Team SISU to participate in The Longest Day Challenge. SISU is the Finnish word for courage and resilience. Our team will head up to the White Mountains in NH, staying overnight at the AMC Mizpah Hut, hoping to reach the peaks of Mt Pierce, Jackson, and Eisenhower.
As many of you know, my mom Fern Wingate was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s disease in her early 60’s. She passed away 10 years later at the ‘way too young' age of 70. Since her passing, I have been very involved with care for the elderly, and see firsthand the devastating effects of this horrific disease.
If you feel so inclined, I would truly appreciate your donation to our team, no matter how small. Please visit our team website and scroll down to my name: Team SISU Alzheimer’s donation.
Thank you in advance for your consideration.
All the best,
