BENEFITING: ALLIED SERVICES FOUNDATION
ORGANIZER: ALLIED SERVICES FOUNDATION
EVENT DATE: Nov 02, 2014
I'm proud to be running the TCS NYC Marathon to help children and adults with disabilities in NE and Central Pennsylvania served by Allied Services. Any size donation will help. Donate $30 in my honor and you'll be eligible to receive a cool moisture-wicking Ryan's Run exercise shirt.
My running story started with the birth of my son five years ago. I was not able to carry him up the stairs without getting short of breath. I was the heaviest I had ever been and was living a lazy lifestyle. I wanted to make sure I would be around for my family in the future, so I took up running.
As most runners progress, so did I. I started with running for fitness, moving on to 5K’s, half marathons, up to my first marathon, the 2011 Steamtown Marathon. To date I’ve run 9 half marathons, 4 full marathons and numerous races in between. As my running friends know, I am always looking for a new challenge or adventure in running and that is how I’ve come to Ryan’s Run 5.
Having never run a race with more than 2,500 participants, the NYC marathon, the largest in the world, scares and intimidates me a bit. However, as a 15 year employee of Allied Services at John Heinz, these fears pale in comparison to the challenges of the lives of the people I work with daily as an inpatient Physical Therapist.
I have had the very fortunate opportunity to work with amazing people while taking advantage of the technology that previous Ryan’s Run campaigns have provided at Allied Services. This year, I wanted to be a part of the team to give back to the community that has been my home for the last 15 years and honor the company that has given me and my family so much.
