Run For A Better Future 2014
Supporters of EOS International all around North America will be running (and biking and swimming) for a better future. Funds raised will go to helping rural Nicaraguans install technologies that help them improve their health and lift themselves out of poverty while protecting the environment.
This year we are focusing on water - essential to life, health and agriculture. We were orginially trying to raise $2,000 to fund 10 chlorinators we plan to install in collaboration with the municipal government of San Fernando in Nicaragua. The response has been so tremendous, we have decided to raise our goal to 25 chlorinators for $5000, located all around Nicaragua, which we have again surpassed, thanks to your support! Some installations are already planned (such as an additonal two in San Fernando), and we are in communication with several other organizations about doing mass installations where they work (e.g. ASDENIC & Solidaridad Internacional). For the rest we will send our staff out into the "campo" (countryside) to find communities that are ready to make the commitment to install and maintain a system to keep their water clean.
Our inexpensive, low-tech, and locally repairable chlorinators will be installed in small communities. Each one costs EOS about $200 and will serve 200-1000 people. Treated water reduces diarrheal illnesses that lower quality of life and is potentially fatal, especially to children.
This means every time a friend or relative donates $10, they are helping two families stay healthy with something we take for granted - clean water.
