2 weeks ago I told my dad that I was going to get him a liver. And even with these road blocks, that is what I am going to do.

Here is his story:

Rock Belnap is one of the most hard-working men you will ever meet. He has been an educator for over 30 years, a coach to many young men and young women, a mentor to youth in his church and a loving father and husband. He has worked hard his entire life having 2 or 3 jobs to support his family while living on a teacher's salary. He learned skills and trade to build, even his own house. He has made a difference in the lives of hundreds of young people in his community and is in need of some help.

3 years ago he was diagnosed with Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis (PSC). It is a liver disease highly correlated with ulcerative colitis (which he also has). He was placed on the transplant list and has been waiting ever since. With recent news he has found out that his MELD score would need to be >30 to even be close to getting a transplant in Utah (region 5-- He is at a 21 and his kidney is beginning to fail. And oh ya... he only has 1 kidney due to a childhood accident. He has been told by his doctors that by the time he comes close to a 30 his kidney will have failed. To be blunt, they told us he most likely will die before ever coming within reach of getting a transplant.

Because of this, he needs to move to another region. We have chosen Indiana as the best possible option for a transplant. But his insurance has denied him coverage (even out of network coverage, a transplant is the only thing they won't cover) and that he has to get his transplant in Utah. While we are filing an appeal in hopes that the insurance company will find their humanitarian side and help him, we are looking at other private insurance options. This is going to be much more expensive because private insurance premiums are incredibly high and not quite as good of coverage. While we are blessed to have friends in Indiana that can give him a place to call home while he waits, we will need a lot more money than originally budgeted to pay for the transplant. It breaks my heart that he cannot get this tested and true life saving transplant because the insurance won't negotiate with the hospital in Indiana. Why is it always about the money...

If you can please help by giving a gift, or sharing our cause, you will have our gratitude forever. A retired school teacher doesn't make much :) And I love him so I want to save him. We have seen so many blessings from this already from good and kind people. We know that with faith, prayers, and hard work we can do this.

And regardless of your monetary gift, please become an organ donor. It's as easy as checking a box on your drivers license renewal ( So many lives depend on it.
