The Rise School was founded in 1998 by John Poston and Wendy Payne to provide an opportunity for their son, Michael, who was born with Down Syndrome. The Rise School is modeled after the Rise Program at the University of Alabama, which began in 1974. The Rise model provides the highest quality of early childhood education and therapy services to children with developmental disabilities such as Down syndrome.
One third of the children are typical children, providing an inclusionary program for all of the children. The Rise School serves 56 children, ages 1-5, and has successfully graduated over 180 children! The school is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
So let's get out and enjoy the day for a great cause!
