Calendar

We want to make planning your campaign super easy so we've highlighted all the key dates and events that you should take note of throughout the Challenge. Please check out this calendar, make sure you're registered for the webinar, have all your emails planned and are ready to go.

8/17 - There are four weeks until the start of the Challenge. One of our biggest tips for any Challenge is constant communication with your supporter network. In order to make this extremely easy, you need to make sure you have a solid contact list in place. That means you should have valid email addresses for every supporter, staff member, board member, friend and family member whom you plan to contact. In addition, make sure to appoint someone on your team to craft your messaging. They should be referencing this calendar, knowing when to send out each email and when to post on your social media channel(s).

8/23 - We're hosting a Challenge webinar today at 3pm. If you haven't already registered, please Go Here to make it happen. UPDATE: Please Click Here to view the Webinar Deck and Click Here for the Webinar Recording.

8/24 - Three weeks left until the start of the Challenge. Recruiting fundraisers to join your team is crucial. You need to contact every board member individually, as well as all of your supporters, to let them know about the Challenge and that you need their help to win. Think about it...if you can get a donor to give $25, that's great. But, if you can get that same supporter to start a fundraiser for your cause, reach out via email and social media to their contacts and they raise $1,000, that's a game changer. Check out the EMAIL DRAFTS section of this toolkit for drafts to help you actively recruit fundraisers.

8/31 - Two weeks to go. Is your fundraising page perfect? All of your supporters will land on this page and you need to think of it as the place where they'll make a decision whether or not to donate. Make your page so impactful that it's impossible for them not to give. Include a detailed story section, lots of pictures and even a video, if possible.

9/2 - Reach out to your fundraisers and let them know what the best next steps are for making their page perfect and their fundraiser ready. We have a sample email you can use in the EMAIL DRAFTS section of this toolkit.

9/7 - The Challenge starts in just one week. How many fundraisers do you have? If the answer is very few, reach out again and ask for help. Having fundraisers rally for your cause is key to a successful Challenge! You'll want to have fundraisers confirmed before the Challenge begins.

9/13 - Check in with all of your fundraisers and make sure they're ready for the Challenge launch tomorrow. You'll want to keep them engaged and feeling appreciated throughout the Challenge. Check out our customizable draft in the Email Drafts tab to help you communicate with them today.

9/14 - The Challenge starts today at noon (12pm) ET! Time to message everyone you know and ask them to fundraise or donate to your cause. Not only does the Challenge begin today, but so does the Day One Match and Bonus Challenge #1, which means you could already win up to $5,000. Every week throughout the Challenge, there will be Bonus Challenges, which are great opportunities to win even more money for your cause. Plus, they're super fun. This one starts at 12pm ET today. You can check them all out Here.

9/16 - If all your board members do not have fundraising pages by now, make sure to reach out to them individually and remind them to fundraise for your organization. Give them the option to start a fundraiser or donate a large amount (i.e. $1,000). Or, better yet, $2,000. Basically, make it impossible for them not to help fundraise for you. They should want to help as they are your biggest supporters. Check out the Email Drafts tab for a sample draft.

9/20 - Bonus Challenge #2 begins today and five organizations will win $3,000. Please Go Here for more details about all the Bonus Challenges.

9/22 - Email your supporters an update about the Challenge such as the prizes you've won, how much you've raised, etc. The amount you raise ends up being a direct reflection of the motivational messaging in the emails you share with your network. In addition, use our easy update tool to instantly share with donors what's going on with your campaign. Please Go Here to find out more on how to use it.

9/26 - Organizations have until 11:59:59pm ET today to have at least $500 on their Challenge fundraiser to be eligible to receive "Donate to All" funds. To learn more, please Go Here. Also, on this day, any organization that has not raised at least $10 online by 11:59:59pm ET will be hidden from the Challenge Leaderboard until monies have been raised. Please Go Here for more information.

9/27 - Bonus Challenge #3 starts today and it's all about Rock Paper Scissors. Please Go Here for more details on all the Bonus Challenges.

9/29 - Send an email to your entire list thanking them for all of their donations and support. No need to ask them to give in this email. Instead, explain to them how winning the Challenge can impact your organization and that you really appreciate everything your supporters are doing.

10/4 - It's time for Bonus Challenge #4 and there are two ways to win. Please Go Here to find out all the details.

10/5 - The Mid-Challenge Pitch Opportunity ends tonight. Remember, to enter, you need to have at least $50,000 on your Challenge fundraiser by 11:59:59pm ET. This is such an incredible opportunity and one that your supporters will want to help you have the chance to win. So reach out and raise that $50,000!

10/6 - Email your board again and let them know there is still an opportunity to fundraise or donate. Every donation counts through the final hours of the Challenge and tapping into their networks is so important. Also today, email everyone else on your list your update within the Challenge and how much you've raised so far. Remind them that every donation counts and that there are just twenty more days to go.

10/11 - It's time for Bonus Challenge #5. Please Go Here for all the details.

10/13 - Continue to use the Update Tool to share your Challenge status. Donors love seeing where their contribution is going, your excitement, and where you're at in the Challenge. This tool was specifically designed to make it easy for you to communicate with passionate supporters and encourage more donations.

10/18 - This is it. The last Bonus Challenge in the Revlon LOVE IS ON 2016 Million Dollar Challenge. Super exciting. Go Here to learn everything.

10/20 - With less than a week left in the Challenge, make sure to keep the momentum high by communicating with your supporters as much as you can. Use social media to keep the momentum going and also email everyone thanking them for their support. The last week in a Challenge is a huge boost for donations so don't be shy and reach out through every channel you can.

10/25 - The Challenge is over tomorrow, October 26th at 1:59:59pm ET. Every donation counts until the Challenge is over so ask everyone to please help in every way possible.

10/26 - The Challenge ends today at 1:59:59pm ET. On this day, definitely encourage your supporters to donate to your cause in the last few hours of the Challenge, but also make sure they don't donate at the last minute. It takes time to process donations, so you want to avoid waiting until the last minutes to donate. Donation transactions need to be processed and completed before the end of the Challenge.

10/27 - Use the Campaign Update tool to give a recap of your Challenge campaign. It'll automatically be sent to all of your donors with the final Challenge details, keeping them excited about your cause. Be sure to email your network and post on social media. Keeping your donors feeling appreciated is key for long-term support.

Social Media Marketing Tips

A Quick Guide to #Hashtag Etiquette

The slanted tic-tac-toe grid is an essential social media tool — but it must be used wisely. At best, it connects your message to others similar in theme or content, allowing readers to easily access related posts. At worst, it strings together unrelated nonsense, leaving people more confused than when they started.

USE #REVLONMILLION EVERYWHERE

The official hashtag of the challenge; join the conversation on any social media channel using #RevlonMillion and use it to search for others supporting the Challenge on social media!

Twitter

• Hashtags were invented for twitter and remain the site’s chief organizing principle. If you want to trend, use hashtags. That said, deploy them judiciously: According to our data, tweets with hashtags get twice the engagement of those without. But using more than three hashtags usually causes engagement to drop by 17 percent.

• Twitter isn’t shy about announcing which hashtags are trending. It’s tempting to jump on popular ones to get attention, but take care to stick to ones that are relevant to your message to avoid backlash.

Facebook:

Conversely, avoid using hashtags on Facebook. Facebook posts without hashtags see more engagement than those with them.

Instagram:

• Readers of the photo-sharing site take a more the merrier attitude towards hashtags. Engagement is highest on posts with 11 and more hashtags

Top Non-Profit Hashtags to include in your posts:

• There’s no silver bullet, but a good rule of thumb is to make them clear and keep them relevant to your cause. For example, the top hashtags for breast cancer and autism are #breastcancer and #autism, respectively. Don’t worry! We’ll let you know if there’s a trend that’s right for you. For now here are some general #hashtags that will help you explore the conversation around women’s health and social good, and start raising awareness for the Million Dollar Challenge!
• #HERchat: Women’s health and wellbeing social conversations
• #SocialGood: Tweets at the intersection of philanthropy and social media
• #WomensHealth: General topics related to women’s issues and wellness
• #CharityTuesday: Spread the good word every Tuesday with this Twitter tag
• #Philanthropy: Raise awareness of the people, projects and platforms that are doing something good
• #Fundraising: Need ideas and help growing donors and funding? This is the conversation tag to explore and use to get the word out on the Million Dollar Challenge.

Social Scheduling: Best Times To Post To Social Media

• Facebook: Take advantage of people looking for distractions at the tail end of the workweek. Post on Thursday and Fridays at 1 p.m. for maximum shares or 3 p.m. for the most clicks

• Twitter: Are you trying to reach your peers or the general public? Tweets on weekdays reach businesses and ones on the weekends are read more by consumers. Aim for posting at 12 p.m. for the highest click through rate and 5 p.m. to get your highest retweets.

• LinkedIn: People get serious about networking in the middle of the week. Share stories on Tuesday mornings between 10 a.m.-11 a.m. or Wednesday and Thursday at 7am-8am.

• Pinterest: Take advantage of Pinterest’s high weekend traffic by posting between 8 and 11 on Saturday night. Instagram: Instagram traffic is consistent throughout the week with a slight peak on Monday. Still, the best times to post are 1p.m. and between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m.

Press Tips

How do I get the press release?
It's super easy. Just Go Here and grab the pre-built press release. It has blanks reserved for you to customize the press release to make it fit for your cause.
Who should I target for my press release?
Look for the local media (hometown newspapers, television stations, and local websites) that cover your area, as well as regional outlets (the newspapers, TV channels, and websites that originate in the large metropolitan area closest to you). Share the press release with them and offer a local spokesperson to discuss the importance of the campaign with the reporter or producer.
Once I’ve identified my target media, how do I know who’s the correct person to contact?
You can do a little digging, either online or via phone, to find out the name of the writer/editor/producer who covers the appropriate beat—that could be cause, technology, community events, human-interest or the specific sector your organization operates in or for (or the correct answer could be “all of the above” as long as you aren’t inundating one outlet with outreach).
How much in advance of my event/campaign should I send my pitch?
That will depend on the outlet, but generally local and regional press are considered “short-lead.” You should contact the outlets that you’re interested in once your press release is final and you are ready to go live with the story. We recommend going out as close to the launch of the Challenge as possible to maximize pickup.
How and when should I follow up?
We recommend following up on an email pitch with a call the same day. If you do not get in touch with anyone and do not leave a voicemail, it is appropriate to call the contact back the next day.

Or Email Us and we’ll be able to help solve everything.
What are the upfront costs of using CrowdRise for this Challenge?
There are no upfront costs for using CrowdRise for the Challenge. And, what's even more amazing is that for the duration of the Challenge, Revlon is generously covering all platform fees for each transaction in the Revlon LOVE IS ON 2016 Million Dollar Challenge. The only other fee incurred per transaction is a mandatory credit card fee of 2.9% + $.30. However, we're giving every Challenge participant a Donor Cover the Fees button on their donation check out page so that their donors have the opportunity to cover these credit card fees. The response to this functionality has been overwhelmingly positive and the goal is to get you cost-free fundraising. If all your donors choose to cover your credit card fees, you'll get just that -- cost-free fundraising.
How do I post an update about my Challenge fundraiser?
Updating your supporters on your campaign is key to raising more money. It keeps them engaged, allows you to customize your asks, and definitely provides more communication throughout the Challenge. And, we've found that those charities that post campaign updates raise 3x more and have 4x as many repeat donors.

Some quick instructions on how to post an update:

1. Log in to your account Here and view your fundraiser.
2. Locate the POST AN UPDATE bubble above the STORY section on the main fundraiser page.
3. Click the POST AN UPDATE link.
4. Fill out the subject and body of your update then click SAVE & PREVIEW.

Three more notes...

-Your CrowdRise campaign update will post to your fundraiser to be viewed by all visitors to your page.
-Your update will also automatically be emailed to all of your current donors.
-Your donors can opt out of receiving your future campaign updates by following the link at the bottom of the campaign update email.
How do I find out if I've won a Bonus Challenge or a Grand Prize?
The winners of the Bonus Challenges will be directly notified by Revlon. In addition, we'll be posting the winners Here so check back weekly after each Bonus Challenge is done.

You can also Email Us for a winners list and anything else in the world. Check out the Challenge Rules for a little more info about how to win a grand prize and the Bonus Challenges. Please note that it can take up to seven (7) business days to verify the winners. All Challenge participants will receive an email after the winners are determined and you can read more about it all in the Challenge Rules.

Which donations count toward winning the Challenge? Which donations don't count?
Bonus Challenge prizes, "Donate to All" funds, and online donations made to the Challenge fundraiser, and verified by the Sponsor, count toward winning the Challenge. Revlon will add Bonus Challenge prize money to the winning charity fundraising totals throughout the Challenge Period. The prize value will be counted toward the winning charity's fundraising total and applied to the current or upcoming Bonus Challenge after the winners are announced. The actual financial award will not be sent to the potential winner until after the Challenge is over in accordance with the Rules. These details are not guaranteed and subject to change, at Revlon's sole discretion, and their decisions are final and binding, based on a variety of factors.

All other donations do not count. These are "offline donations" such as cash or check received by your organization during the course of the Challenge, any donations you receive before or after the Challenge Period, and donations that don't comply with the Rules.
What if a foundation, corporation or big donor wants to donate by check?
There’s nothing better than getting a big donation to help your chances in the Challenge. For the donation to count towards your Challenge total, it will need to be made by credit card and you’ll definitely want to stay in compliance with the Challenge Rules.

Here are a few of the Rules to consider, but please make sure to thoroughly review all of the Challenge Rules on your own:

• Donations must be made on the Website via the Charity’s Fundraising Page using a credit card and successfully processed to completion (and not subject to any chargebacks or disputes) through CrowdRise and its third party payment processor during the Challenge Period to count toward the Challenge. Donations made outside of the Challenge, outside the Challenge Period and/or offline, even if recorded on the Website, including, but not limited to, donations by cash, credit card, money order, donations made to a Charity’s non-Challenge website or an ineligible fundraising page on CrowdRise.com, or any other donations not successfully processed online via credit card (“offline donations”) are not eligible and will not be counted toward the Challenge. The only exceptions are Bonus Challenge grants that may be awarded by Sponsor.

• A Charity or its proxy may not donate any money to its own Fundraising Page that would be counted towards its donations for the Challenge, whether by taking money from its own account(s) to donate to itself or otherwise, no matter the intent. This includes, without limitation, receiving cash or check donations or having an employee, the Applicant, or other individual act as a proxy for the Charity.

• No Unique Donor’s donation may account for more than 75% of the total raised by any Charity participating in the Challenge. If a Unique Donor accounts for more than 75% of the total raised, every donation made by that Unique Donor to that Charity’s team will not count for determination of the winners of the Challenge. A “Unique Donor” is defined as any single donor that has billing information (first name, last name, and address) distinct from any other donor who makes a donation to the same Charity.

So, a foundation, corporation, big donor or anyone else will need to donate to your Challenge fundraiser with a credit card. If they don’t have a credit card to process a donation, they may be able to purchase a pre-paid credit card and donate to your Challenge fundraiser.

*Please note that all donations are subject to verification by the Sponsor, Revlon, who has absolute and sole discretion to determine whether a donation qualifies under the Challenge Rules. The decisions of the Sponsor are final and binding.
What is the "Donate to All" button and how does it work?
The "Donate to All" button is an option for donors who want to have their contribution distributed equally amongst all eligible organizations participating in the Revlon LOVE IS ON 2016 Million Dollar Challenge. Please see below for a detailed description of how the "Donate to All" button works and how to become eligible to receive these funds.

How does the "Donate to All" button work?

• On September 14th at 12pm ET, the "Donate to All" button will go live.

• The "Donate to All" button will be live for the duration of the Challenge -- September 14th at 12pm ET through October 26th at 1:59:59pm ET.

• Funds raised through the "Donate to All" button from September 14th at 12pm ET through September 26th at 11:59:59pm ET, will be recorded on September 27th as an offline donation to eligible organization's Challenge fundraising pages. This offline donation will count towards Challenge Grand Prizes and the Mid-Challenge Pitch Opportunity.

• Funds raised through the "Donate to All" button from September 27th at 12am ET through October 26th at 1:59:59pm ET will be distributed via check to eligible organizations Post-Challenge.

How does an organization become eligible to receive funds garnered by the Donate to All button?

• Every participating organization that shows at least $500 on their Challenge fundraiser between September 14th at 12pm ET and September 26th at 11:59:59pm ET will be eligible to receive funds from the Donate to All button.

• Organizations that do not have at least $500 on their Challenge fundraiser by 11:59:59pm ET on September 26th are not eligible to receive any Donate to All funds.
Is there a minimum amount of money I have to raise in the Challenge?
As detailed in the Challenge Rules, any organization that has not raised at least $10 online by September 26th at 11:59:59pm ET will be hidden from the Challenge Leaderboard. An organization will be unhidden from the Leaderboard once they have raised at least $10 in online donations.
How will Canadian donations be processed?
Donations are processed using the exchange rate at the time of the donation. Canadian charity team pages will reflect donations in Canadian Dollars (CAD) and the Challenge Leaderboard will reflect donations in US Dollars (USD).
How and when will the Bonus Challenges and overall Challenge prizes be awarded?
If you are a winner of a Bonus Challenge or a Grand Prize, you are a "Potential Winner" and will not receive a Prize until you are verified and declared an "Official Winner" according to the Challenge Rules. Here's a little summary of how the verification process will work...

When each Bonus Challenge and the Challenge ends, CrowdRise will reach out to potential winners with instructions. If your prize (or total prize amount in the Challenge) is $600+ USD, you will be required to submit an affidavit of eligibility, liability and Publicity Release or a declaration and W9 within 48 hours. Grand Prize Winners will need to submit proof of participation in Revlon's Promotional Activity Plan. Only then will you be declared an "Official Winner".

If you do not return your required paperwork within the required period of time, you will forfeit your opportunity to win and we will choose another winner, time permitting.

Official winners of Bonus Challenges will get the value of the prize added to their fundraising total as an offline donation during the Challenge. That amount won will show on the Challenge Leaderboard and count towards the Mid-Challenge Pitch Opportunity, the $500 USD raised in order to be eligible to receive any Donate to All funds, and Grand Prizes. The actual monetary value of the prize money won will be distributed by Revlon Post-Challenge.

Official winners of the Grand Prizes will receive the funds won by Revlon Post-Challenge.
What happens after the Challenge is over?
When the Challenge officially ends on October 26th at 1:59:59pm ET, the DONATE button on your page will be disabled. Meaning that you will not be able to receive any donations to your Revlon LOVE IS ON 2016 Million Dollar Challenge fundraising page after this time.

However, if you want to start a new fundraiser, Email Us and we can set up a redirect for your page.
I have an event that I'm doing around the same time as the Challenge, how can I tie the event to this Challenge to really maximize donor giving?
Great question. We have lots of tips to help create momentum and drive donations during your event. Check 'em all out and please let us know if you have any questions.

• Have multiple laptops and/or tablets at your event that are set up on your Challenge fundraising page. Have staff or volunteers stand at those stations to help guide attendees through the simple donation process. Make sure your staff is familiar with the details of the Challenge so if approached, or if running a donate station, they are ready to answer questions and motivate their attendee to give.

• If you have a slide show or video at your event, make sure to add your fundraiser URL to each page so that throughout the presentation, donors can give on their phones or at your computer stations.

• Are you selling tickets to your event on Eventbrite? Link your registration to your Challenge page and encourage your attendees to become fundraisers. If you need any help setting it up, please Email Us and we'll be ready.

• Ask your emcee to talk about the Challenge and how winning would impact your cause. Use that stage to encourage donations and get the crowd excited about the opportunity you have with the Challenge.

• Use games to help create a fun atmosphere that encourages giving. For instance, every table that donates at least $250 is entered to win a prize. By using their mobile phones, they don't even have to leave their seat to make it happen.

• Offline donations do not count towards the Challenge so if you have an auction of some sort and want to use it towards the Challenge, encourage donors to bid with their online donations. Maybe it's the first to donate $1,000 wins the prize or the donor that gives the most in the next 15 minutes wins the prize. The more you can move your donations online, the better it'll be for your leaderboard status.

• Check out the Bonus Challenges Here and get your attendees to help you try to win the week of your event. They're fun and accessible to everyone.
"Hey, hey, easy kids. Everybody in the car. Boat leaves in two minutes... or perhaps you don't want to see the second largest ball of twine on the face of the earth, which is only four short hours away?"
We appreciate you taking the time to read through the Toolkit. If we still have your attention, Email Us with the name of the movie that features the below quote and you'll automatically be entered to win a pizza party for your organization at the end of the Challenge!
