BENEFITING: American Red Cross
ORGANIZER: American Red Cross Greater New York Region
EVENT DATE: Nov 02, 2014
My own history with the Red Cross goes back to age six, when I was hit by a truck and nearly died. In those days, blood had to be replaced to a hospital that used it and many people from my community stepped up and donated blood. When I was 14, I joined the Civil Air Patrol and we did some training along with the Red Cross including taking Basic and Advanced First Aid and CPR classes, as well as training for Disaster Releif. When I was 20, I was taken off all medication and after waiting the three years for my system to be clean, started giving blood. That was over 13 gallons ago. Last year, my story ran in Runner's World magazine http://www.runnersworld.com/runners-stories/bret-dunlap-discovered-running-and-it-changed-his-life?page=single. I thought it would be a good idea to run the Chicago Marathon and raise money for the Red Cross, I did very well. This year, I would like to run the New York Marathon on Team Red Cross. Please, if you can spare some money for Team Red, you would not only be helping me, you would help many in need. Thank you.
