Many cases of domestic violence are linked to financial instability: research shows that lack of financial knowledge keeps many women from leaving these unsafe situations. However, 75% of Americans do not immediately associate domestic violence with economic abuse.
At the YW, our Women’s Empowerment Network provides job training and financial literacy workshops to help women overcome joblessness and financial insecurity. By combining these two elements into our workshop, we are preparing women to leave situations of domestic violence and enter/re-enter the workforce.
By donating to the YW’s Purple Purse Challenge, you are bringing light to the importance of financial literacy to combatting domestic violence and helping us change the lives of women in New York City.
