THE STORY:

SISTERS EMPOWERMENT NETWORK INC wrote -

When the cohesiveness of the family unit is interrupted by domestic violence, women and children victimized by this epidemic are placed at an alarming disadvantage. Situation of homelessness caused by the financial, physical and or verbal and emotional abuse can derail their lives permanently without the proper assistance.

SEN believes that empowerment is the cornerstone of women's progress. For more than 10 years, we have been committed to supporting women and children who are experiencing turblent transition in regaining control of their lives and the lives of their children after an abusive relationship by offering all the emotional, economical and social resource, referrals and direct services available at our disposal. SEN strives to be a source of support for these women who need a helping hand.

Financial abuse has become the major topic of conversation for domestic violence shelters, agengies and advocates. Financial abuse occurs in 98 percent of abusive relationships, whether in the form of restricting access to a victim's credit, or draining assets once she attempts to leave. For women who see their options gradually dwindle, money may be the reason to stay in a relationship or come back after trying to get out. Of the seven in eight women who go back to an abusive partner after leaving, a significant portion attributes the return to financial pressures.

Our focus is to create a unified, diverse, inclusive community where all people are free to live a peaceful, productive life free of domestic violence. Being a part of the Purple Purse Challenge will afford SEN the opportunity to expand our financial empowerment services to the countless number of silent victims not accounted for, as well as our clients involved in our program.

Our philosophy is to offer this program to women whether she is a survivor of domestic violence, struggling to feed her family, seeking a safe place to live or simply finding or maintaining a job. The Moving Ahead Through Financial Management Curriculum can help any woman seeking financial empowerment along her journey to financial freedom. SEN's vision is to model a positive environment where women can make their own life choices..

Please donate to our holistic approach to reaching all women.
