I am thrilled to be able to do this race with my good friend Peter Bremberg (you should read his story on his fundraiser page). Pete had his leg amputated 10 years ago after battling bone cancer. He is commemorating the anniversary by dedicating the race to a charity we both work for, Mission Santa Maria.
Mission Santa Maria is a charity that sends kids, including orphans, to school in Ecuador. Pete visited me while I lived in Ecuador and the kids were facinated with his leg. The boys especially loved Pete as we took them to the beach and the movies.
This is not something new for Pete. His first race after surgery was a 5-mile run which he also used as an opportunity to raise funds for Mission Santa Maria. Now Pete eats 5-mile runs for breakfast and enjoys passing me in the swim lanes.
Please support us by 1-racing with us, 2- joining us for the post-race BBQ or 3-donating to Mission Santa Maria on this page or through our website: www.missionsantamaria.com.
