BENEFITING: Perkins School For The Blind
ORGANIZER: Perkins School For The Blind
EVENT: 2017 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 17, 2017
I am so honored and excited to be running the 2017 Boston Marathon as a part of Team Perkins to raise funds to support Perkins School for the Blind's programs and services on campus, in the community, and around the world. All of the funds donated will be used to help children and young adults who are blind and Deafblind reach their full potential. As a Speech-Language Pathologist in the Deafblind program, I am lucky enough to see what a wonderful and special place Perkins is first-hand, every day.
My inspiration to run and fundraise is all of the students within the Deafblind program. Each student is able to receive individualized education and services that promote productive and meaningful lives because of the exceptional interdisciplinary team of highly trained teachers, clinicians, residential, and support staff. I have previously run the 2015 Boston Marathon and the 2016 New York City Marathon, however I know that the 2017 Boston Marathon will be the most special because I get to run for such a fantastic cause that is so close to my heart!
Perkins School for the Blind is a progressive, multi-faceted organization committed to improving the lives of people with blindness, Deafblindness, or visual impairments, and with or without other disabilities, all around the world. Our ultimate goal is to prepare children and young adults who are blind with the education, confidence and skills they need to succeed in school and beyond. Students from birth to 22 years experience a wide range of skill-building activities, including everything from physical and language therapy to prevocational training and independent living skills.
