David Taitz, Joe Violone and Liam Weiland in memory of Jamie Love and Miles Applebaum
September 14, 2016
BENEFITING: PENCILS OF PROMISE INCORPORATED
ORGANIZER: PENCILS OF PROMISE INCORPORATED
EVENT DATE: Nov 06, 2016
On October 31, 2008, seven of my teammates and closest friends accomplished an amazing feat by winning a sectional title and ticket to the state championships for Byram Hills High School. Since then, two of those seven people, Jamie Love and Miles Applebaum, have since passed tragically away at a very young age. 8 years later, Joe, Liam and I will be running the NYC marathon in honor of the friends and teammates we have lost.
It is often hardest to think of the passing of friends at a young age in terms of their lost opportunities. Any unnecessary impediment to a young person's potential is a tragedy. It is for this reason that we are raising money on behalf of Pencils of Promise and children across the world who otherwise do not have access to education and thus the opportunity to fulfill their potentials.
Running has always been more than a sport to us. Even for those who aren't with us today, it was a vehicle that carried our dreams of championships, college acceptances, and lifelong friends to reality. We hope that by competing on November 5th, our running will allow children worldwide to dream for a better future as well.
Run for Love. Run for Miles.
- David, Joe & Liam
