BENEFITING: 282 PARENT TEACHER ORGANIZATION INC
Our school's computer lab and classrooms are sadly equipped with very old PCs and outdated software. Our elementary and middle-school children are in great need of a full technology upgrade so that their teachers can finally implement new and improved curricula and give these Brooklyn kids the best education possible.
At 282 we've done a 'Scratch Day' with volunteers from Deloitte and local start-ups and have participated in the 'Hour of Code' in both 2013 and 2014. This school year we launched program to teach 3rd to 5th graders basic computer coding skills through HTINK and have recently launched a similar program with Codesters in the middle school. But without new laptops, it may be impossible to continue our 282 programs to teach our kids the basics of software engineering.
The PS/MS 282 PTO has done a great job of leading our school's fundraising efforts. Last year, we raised funds for enrichment programs such as music, art, and the school's Green Zone Community Garden. This year, the principal succeeded in securing a generous donation of smart-boards for the school.
Our goal now is to raise $10,000 to equip our classrooms and computer lab with 40 new Chrome Books. The updated equipment will greatly enhance our children's ability to make the most of their classroom learning experience and better prepare them to succeed in high school and beyond.
