Hi everyone, my name is Nicolette Deveau and I have signed up to literally fight against cancer. I have joined Haymakers for Hope and several other women to fight against cancer in an amateur boxing match. I started training this past June, and I will be fighting in my first boxing match-up this upcoming October 2nd.
I learned about the Haymakers for Hope back in 2010 when a friend of mine joined the fight against cancer and honored my son who was battling cancer at the time. I had gone to the event; it was so amazing to see all the support and all the brave fighters that literally put their all on the line to fight for those fighting cancer. After that night I was determined to be able to do the same someday.
My son was diagnosed with Stage IV Neuroblastoma December 2009 and his battle came to an end 09/11/2011, which was only 18 months after diagnosis, and since then I have done all I can to help others going through what we went through as well as raise funds and awareness. I entered my name in for the Haymakers for Hope for the first time in the fall of 2012 and I was unable to fight because they did not have another fighter to match me with, since then every year I apply. Well this year I was finally chosen to fight in the October 2nd match-up and I couldn’t be more excited. Since my son’s diagnosis I have met several other children that were battling cancer as well and unfortunately several of them have also lost their battle. There have also been several adults that I have been close to that either have been diagnosed or have lost their battle as well. My mission is to help END cancer any way I can. I may not be able to shave my head for cancer awareness and funding but I know I certainly can get in the ring and FIGHT for it.
