My grandfather, Pete Chadwick, suffered a stroke while working in his yard one year ago. Pete's recovery has been a difficult journey for him. But despite effects to his memory and lingering aphasia, Pete is still the same amazing person he's always been. As a runner, I've taken on a number of races in the past, but with the 2015 TCS New York City Marathon, I wanted to step up and challenge myself in a more impactful way. I want to use this race to honor a great man and an important cause. And so, I've taken on the commitment to raise $3500 for the National Stroke Association in honor of Pete Chadwick.
Pete has always left a lasting impression on everyone who meets him. He's gregarious, a comedian, kind-hearted, but with a strong sense of morality and conviction. Pete was also a second father to me. He's been a part of my life from the moment I was born, and my memories of times spent with him growing up are ones I will always carry close to my heart. Pete taught me how to fish, how to shoot a BB gun, how to appreciate a good hamburger, and how to mix my grits and eggs together for a "sawmill breakfast." He also taught me what it's like to live by your faith in God and how to listen to that voice inside to know right from wrong and live both ethically and responsibly.
As a non-profit, National Stroke Association is well-aligned with the morals and values Pete has stood for throughout his own life. The organization is devoted to education for preventative safety as well as raising the level of health and wellness of stroke survivors. Please join me by contributing a tax-deductible donation to this cause. Thank you for helping me share Pete's story and bring about positive change for all those impacted by stroke.
