I run for all of those who can't.
I was diagnosed with epilepsy at 18, the summer before I left Oklahoma to attend Yale University. It's been a tough but rewarding ride, through a very supportive marriage, 2 awesome teenage boys, college and grad school, and a series of jobs all while managing a seizure disorder with grand mals and partial complex seizures.
The Epilepsy Foundation has been critical to my success. They were there providing mentorship and support during my brain surgery and recovery in 2003, helping me research various medications for the past 22 years, and they continue to be a strong part of my community and mentorship here in Spokane, WA and beyond.
This organization funds research for a disorder that is one of the most poorly understood neurological conditions, despite the rapid rise in the number of folks diagnosed every year. The fastest growing populations are our seniors and our returning vets, and current estimates are that 1 in every 26 people will have epilepsy in their lifetimes. We can beat this, but only with your help! Your generosity goes a long way in a tough battle.
