Mt Whitney SFS Climb
EVENT DATE: Apr 15, 2016
DEADLINE TO GIVE: May 15, 2016
FUNDRAISER SET UP DEADLINE: Jan 15, 2016
Climb Mt. Whitney with adventure blogger and creator of The Big Outside, Michael Lanza! At 14,497 feet, Mount Whitney is the highest peak in the lower 48 states. It is also one of the most sought-after mountains in North America. During the winter and spring months the Mountaineers Route is full of snow. Crampon, ice axe, and rope travel skills are including fixed line skills. In some conditions running belays are also employed. Over the four-day climb we will set up two expedition style camps with the highest located at the base of the spectacular East Face of Mt. Whitney. This 25-45 degree climb offers an excellent opportunity to learn and review skills applicable to climbs such as Mt. McKinley, peaks in South America, the Alps, Russia, Nepal, and other big snow climbs. This route offers a much less crowded way of reaching this very popular summit, and beautiful vistas are prevalent throughout.
How does it work?
You pay a non-refundable $250 registration fee & agree to fundraise $4,000 to climb Mt Whitney, the highest peak in the Continental United States! BCM pays your guide fee of $1,000 (of course you can donate an additional $750 if you want all the funds you raise to go to BCM!). Then you fundraise up to your goal & spread the word about BCM, and go on an awesome climb!
For more information on this trip, including equipment you need, the itinerary, and more, please see the Whitney page on the Big City Mountaineers' website.
