When you support a mother, you uplift her family.
When you uplift her family, you strengthen her community.
When you strengthen her community, you change the world.
MotherWoman supports and empowers mothers to create positive personal and social change by building community safety nets, impacting family policy, and promoting the leadership and resilience of mothers.
Advocating for Family Policies that Help Mothers
MYTH: Mothers struggle because of their personal inadequacies and bad choices.
FACT: In this country, having a child is the single most significant indicator that a mother will experience poverty in her lifetime.
WE BELIEVE: No mom should have to choose between the job she needs and caring for the family she loves.
“MotherWoman has a powerful impact on family policy… and we all benefit from it!”
- MA State Rep. Ellen Story
Supporting and Empowering Mothers
MYTH: Motherhood is easy and comes naturally to all.
FACT: Postpartum depression is a public health issue and a social justice issue! Postpartum depression affects 10 – 20% of all mothers, which is a public health issue and 40 - 60% of low-income moms suffer from PPD. This is not just a public health issue but a social justice issue!
WE BELIEVE: Every mother deserves the support she needs when raising her children.
“My MotherWoman group saved my life, saved my sense of self and saved my soul! I and my children are grateful!” - Erica, support group attendee and MotherWoman Support Group Facilitator
Building Community Safety Nets for All Mothers
MYTH: Medical and mental health providers know how to help mothers struggling with postpartum emotional complications.
FACT: Lack of provider training and coordinated services means that many mothers and children fall through the cracks.
WE BELIEVe: All providers want to help mothers get the support they need when they most need it.
“MotherWoman’s leadership has equipped the regional professionals who serve mothers to make positive changes in our community that will benefit mothers and families for years to come. Every community needs MotherWoman’s expertise!” - Linda Jablonski, RN
