Thank you for taking the time to visit our page!
We have had an AMAZING year with our beautiful daughter Madison and we are so thrilled to celebrate her successes and support her future by participating in the 13th Annual F.R.I.E.N.D.S. Buddy Walk! This will be our second year participating and we are hoping team Madison's Marchers will continue to grow this year! We are SO thankful for all the support we received last year! We are thrilled to join F.R.I.E.N.D.S. again this year in their goal of raising awareness and creating opportunities for individuals with Down syndrome and their families to live their best life possible. F.R.I.E.N.D.S. is working hard to allow our children the opportunity to become recognized as valued members of our community. The group has graciously welcomed and supported our family. We have met so many wonderful families and shared our stories and experiences.
Our story began when we were 13 weeks pregnant with Madison we found out our little girl has Down syndrome. We immediately began doing research and trying to prepare ourselves to offer her the best life we could. We wanted her, exactly as she was and we knew that together as a family we would make our way through any challenge. When Madison was born in August 2012, we could not be more in love. She was perfect! Her fuzzy little head and big blue eyes captivated us.
However, we barely had the chance to take in our new baby girl before things started to go downhill and before we knew it she was in a helicopter being flown to Children’s Hospital in D.C. We later found out that Madison was born with three heart defects as well as an intestinal blockage. The months spent in the hospital, as we watched Madison undergo several surgeries, were very difficult. Madison fought very hard for her life and that fight will continue, but we are making the most of every day. She is the most determined little girl and she has proved she is going to live this life her way.
Madison is a smart, funny, strong-willed, beautiful, loving little girl. She adores her family and is always looking to make a friend anywhere she goes. Madison has an amazing ability to make people fall in love with her. People have told me how she leaves a lasting impression on anyone she meets. Madison is the perfect addition to our family!
As Madison’s second birthday approaches we reflect on how far our little girl has come and talk about our wishes and dreams for her and her future. I wish for her that she has the opportunity to live a long fulfilling life. Thanks to our wonderful team of doctors and nurses our daughter has a fighting chance at a longer life. I hope that she is happy and doesn’t face the cruelness of our society. I want to create a culture where people can see that she is just like any other girl. When people look at our daughter we hope they see Madison and not a little girl with Down syndrome because her extra chromosome does not define her, it adds to her pizazz. I want to open doors that allow her to dream and to pursue those dreams freely without judgment.
Please join us this year by spreading the word and making a donation to our team in honor of Madison. The funds raised allow F.R.I.E.N.D.S. to offer scholarships, continue education for teachers in our schools who work with our children, offer medical grants, and bring families together and better the lives of our children. Every dollar helps and any gift of thoughtfulness can make a powerful difference in our children’s lives. Your tax-deductible donation will directly benefit people in our community with Down syndrome.
Madison’s life is a life worth living. Our daughter has fought hard for her life, please help make the change so that can be the hardest fight she will ever have to face!
Our family sincerely thanks you.
