~~Hello My name is Helen, and this is my FIRST EVER Marathon!!! My nickname is Hurricane after being born during Hurrican Bob and this year I plan to live up to that nickname by doing something I never thought possible for myself! I set a goal last April to run in 2014 after never really being a "long distance runner" in order to support and honor the victims and family members, healthcare workers, good citizens, and police officers in the amazing state of MA. Here I am almost a year later running for Mass Mentors an amazing organization. I am a new nurse at Cape Cod Hospital and work with cancer patients who inspire and mentor me in my daily life. Through them I have learned anything is possible, and I want the youth of MA to have the opportunity to feel that way!
Hands down I would not be where I am today without the love, support and guidance of some amazing mentors, teachers, and coaches in my life. I want to give back to an organization that is truly making a difference in youth's life in MA my home state! Running the 2014 Boston Marathon as MY FIRST marathon is an honor, particuarly keeping in mind the events of last year. When thinking about running for an organization that is what fuels you to keep going. It isnt the 26.2 miles anymore, its the good your doing for other people. Please support my team and I as we take on Boston 2014.
SEE YOU AT THE FINISH LINE :)
~~We are honored to participate in the 2014 John Hancock Boston Marathon Non-Profit Program! Mass Mentoring Partnership (MMP) is fueling the movement to expand quality mentoring for youth to meet the needs of communities across Massachusetts. MMP serves more than 200 mentoring programs statewide supporting over 30,000 youth in mentoring relationships. Our goal is to help even more youth realize their potentials through quality mentoring relationships, and to ultimately strengthen our communities.
We have an incredible team of 12 athletes, including six runners who were unable to cross the finish line at the 2013 Boston Marathon due to the tragedy in Copley Square. We are so grateful to have them all back on Team MMP as runners and champions of the youth we work with, and are very excited to support everyone in this special marathon and see them all the way to the finish.
Support the cause and donate to our team today! Your gift will have a direct impact on both the runners and the thousands of youth we support.
