BENEFITING: MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL
ORGANIZER: MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL HOSPITAL
EVENT: 2017 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 17, 2017
For the past three years I have had the honor of being the lead coordinator for the Mass General Marathon Team “Fighting kid’s cancer...one step at a time.” I’ve had the opportunity to admire the unbelievable work of the pediatric cancer clinic’s doctors, nurses, child life specialists and dedicated staff.
I’ve met so many brave kids and special families who courageously fight a disease that no child should ever have to experience. The clinical team at the Mass General Hospital for Children Cancer Center takes a holistic approach to caring for children and families and these heroes help make kids feel like kids, focusing on their quality of life while they are going through the unimaginable.
I also have the honor of running as a partner to an amazing kid, Harry Burns. Shortly before his 5th birthday, Harry was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia. Sadly, I learned that children with Down Syndrome can be up to 20% more likely to develop cancer. No one deserves to get this horrible disease, especially not this special kid. But I'm pleased to say that Harry is doing well and handling his treatment like the champion he is. He loves to laugh and play and his favorite place is the beach (are we a match made in heaven or what?!) He is surrounded by the most loving family, and has an amazing second family with all the incredible caregivers at the Mass MassGeneral Hospital for Children Cancer Center. Training for the marathon has been tough, but it's nothing compared to his toughness. I'm so proud to run in his honor and can't wait to hear him cheering for me on April 17th as I take on the Boston Marathon!
No donation is too small (or too big for that matter!) and all of these funds will help to advance cutting-edge research and continue to provide the best treatments possible for children with cancer.
Thank you in advance for your important contribution. If you prefer to mail in a donation, you may send it to my attention c/o Mass General Development Office, 125 Nashua Street, Boston MA 02114. Checks can be made out to Mass General Hospital with ‘Ashley Bronson Marathon’ in the memo line.
Together we can fight kids’ cancer!
