EVENT: 2017 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 17, 2017
Friends and Family,
On April 17th the Mass General Marathon Team will be headed back to Hopkinton for the 121st running of the Boston Marathon in support of pediatric cancer research and patient care programs at the Mass General Hospital for Children Cancer Center.
Funds raised thru the race are essential to help support clinical and laboratory research, as well as supportive care programs for patients and family members. Child life specialists help patients cope with illness, treatments, recovery, and long term wellness. Programs also provide important support to parents and siblings. With public funding sources continuing to decline, providing these important services would not be possible without the funds raised each year by the Team.
As many of you know, our daughter, Andrea, completed treatments for leukemia four years ago, and continues with follow-on wellness visits. We know firsthand the benefits of MGH’s comprehensive approach to care, both during and after treatment, and we’re committed to helping them continue their work for other families.
Your generosity over the past several years has been overwhelming and very meaningful to the patients and families fortunate enough to be receiving care second to none. We’re asking again for your support thru a donation, which will be greatly appreciated in whatever amount you’re able to make. Donations can be made thru our fundraising page:
Or if you prefer to donate by check, please make it payable to Massachusetts General Hospital and mail it to my attention at:

We are very grateful for your support of the Mass General Hospital for Children Cancer Center.

Since 1998, with the partnership of John Hancock, the Mass General Marathon Team Fighting Kids’ Cancer, One Step at a Time has raised over $12 million to support the pediatric hematology-oncology program at MassGeneral Hospital for Children (MGHfC). Funds raised are directed to cancer care and research initiatives that enhance the quality of life for the hospital’s youngest cancer patients.
Thanks in large part to the philanthropic dollars raised by this Marathon Team, MGHfC is advancing cutting-edge research, increasing the number of clinical studies to improve cure rates, and providing the best treatment possible to pediatric cancer patients. MGHfC is also focused on the quality of life of its young patients and their families through the child life program, which utilizes therapeutic play - music and art therapy to help pediatric cancer patients and their families cope emotionally and developmentally with their illnesses.
This year, more patients than ever before utilized Child-Life services, which indicates the growing popularity of the programming, the recognition of its importance, and the program’s ability to continue to expand its offerings.
We are grateful for the hard work of all of our runners and the dedication of their family and friends, as they embark on fundraising and training for the historic 26.2 mile race.
