EVENT: 2017 Boston Marathon
EVENT DATE: Apr 17, 2017
To most, 26.2 miles is impossible. To runners, 26.2 miles is painful. To me, 26.2 miles is my chance to support a cause that has changed the lives of many around me. I have run marathons for years. I’ve done countless events, and I’ve won countless medals. The Boston Marathon, however, is different. It is my chance to help the Melanoma Foundation of New England.
Originating from Hong Kong, I was not aware how serious melanoma was. Many Eastern cultures, in fact, spend over $19.8 billion to look more like their Western counterparts who so commonly face this disease. Just in the U.S. alone, there are more than 200,000 annual cases of this deadly skin cancer. Despite this horrific number, there is a bright side: the disease is preventable and treatable when diagnosed early.
MFNE works to educate others in reducing melanoma’s risk and the risk of other skin cancers. From avoiding tanning lamps and beds to wearing sunscreen and protective clothing, there are so many easy ways to keep melanoma at bay. MFNE does a great job in educating people about melanoma. You may not be aware of it, but when your hair stylist examines your head and neck or when your children ask you about UVA and UVB rays, that is the MFNE at work in the community. One person at a time, this organization is preventing yet another cancer that has taken too many loved ones too soon.
I have committed to raising $15,000 or more for MFNE. Please join me in support of the Melanoma Foundation of New England. Give what you can and cheer us on April 17, 2017. Every little bit helps and spreading the word about this cause is key. I look forward to working with you to see this goal to fruition.
