THE STORY:

In 2009 Laura Crandall Brown passed away at the age of 25 from ovarian cancer.  Laura constantly expressed her desire to be able to help others who might face her same battle, and her loving and courageous spirit inspired her friends and family to create the Laura Crandall Brown Ovarian Foundation to honor her life, memory, and vision of helping others.

Today the foundation works toward its three-part mission: offering hope through early detection research of ovarian cancer, empowering communities through gynecologic cancer awareness, and enriching lives through support.

Early Detection Research of Ovarian Cancer

Why it's Important: 85% of ovarian cancer cases are diagnosed late.  Over half of the women diagnosed will die within five years.

Our Impact:  Since its founding, LCBF has granted over $250,000 to early detection research projects.

Gynecologic (GYN) Cancer Awareness

Why it's Important: Cervical cancer is the ONLY gynecologic cancer that can be prevented through the use of screening tests, and the Pap Test does not screen for any other GYN cancer.  Without early detection, women need to know the signs and symptoms of GYN cancers.

Our Impact: Through our Speaker's Bureau and A State of Teal initiative, we have educated thousands in the community on the signs and symptoms of GYN cancers.

Support

Why it's Important: No cancer journey should be walked alone.

Our Impact: LCBF's CanSurvive support group offers emotional, educational, and direct financial support to GYN cancer patients and their loved ones.  CanSurvive has been a shoulder to lean on for hundreds of women battling GYN cancer, and last year over $25,000 in financial support was provided to patients in need of assistance with transportation, lodging, and other costs during treatment.
