250 holiday plants & 38 dozen roses. This Christmas, Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly volunteers will deliver 250 beautiful plants, along with holiday meals and treats, to our homebound elders and those living in nursing homes. We’re hoping to brighten the day, and keep them smiling in the days that follow as they enjoy their plant. 38 dozen roses will be distributed at three holiday parties on Christmas Day! Volunteers will pick up elders and bring them to a celebration with a three course meal, entertainment, and fellowship! At the end of the party - every elder receives a lovely red rose in the spirit of our motto "flowers before bread" and we hope the rose reminds them of day spent among friends.
Research has shown that flowers have a powerful impact. In one study, every participant who was given flowers began to smile instantly. Flowers have been shown to positively affect mood, and even memory.
At Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly, Chicago Chapter, our motto is flowers before bread. We believe the small things that make life joyful are as important as meeting physical needs. That’s why we have fresh flowers at all of our celebrations, and why when we deliver holiday meals to homebound elders, we always bring a beautiful live plant. Bringing instant smiles to our elders’ faces is just part of our mission to alleviate their loneliness and isolation.
Send Flowers & Friendship to isolated seniors this holiday season with a gift of $10.00 or more.
