My name is Kathy Lyons; I am an ID Captain with the RI Department of Corrections. I have decided to take the journey on to help raise money for a cure for cancer. This cause is close to our heart, my wife and soulmate Sandy and I have been together for 29 years, and cancer has taken many members of our family to include both sets of our parents. Although we do have cancer survivors in our family as well, and that would be our daughter Jody; at the age of 4 she was diagnosed with rare form of cancer called rhabdomyosarcoma (cancer of the retina) and the road was long and grueling for sure; but Jody is still here today and at the age of 39 -can say she is a cancer survivor!! My own sister Maureen had cervical cancer, and is also a survivor!! Our sister in law Patricia- battled brain cancer and underwent surgery 10 years ago, and she is living strong every day!!
That is why I have decided to commit myself to train hard and get ready to step into the ring on May 14th 2015 in Boston. This is the least I can do for such an amazing cause. I have the love and support of my family, and so I ask; friends, family, coworkers to consider donating to this charity and help me reach my goal, and for those of you that choose to come see me step into the ring in May, the ticket sales will also count towards my goal. This journey over the next 4 months will be a memory of a life time, and I will keep you all updated with photos and comments as I rise to the challenge!!
Haymakers for Hope’s mission is to knockout cancer the only way we know how, by literally fighting for a cure. We give everyday men and women the opportunity to fight back against this terrible disease by training for, and competing in charity boxing events to raise money and awareness. To prepare for each event, we combine the efforts of first time amateur boxing participants, local boxing gyms and volunteers. We hope to help give lifesaving researchers the resources needed to fully focus their efforts on finding a cure.
Defeating cancer will not come from the work of one researcher, one donor, or one physician. Only the collaborative effort of Haymakers for Hope and cancer research facilities, coupled with the support of generous donors like you, will help to deliver cancer a knockout punch. We are committed to raising money and awareness for adult and pediatric cancer care, as we pave new roads toward cures for this disease.
Thank you again for your contribution
