BENEFITING: JOHN RITTER FOUNDATION FOR AORTIC HEALTH
ORGANIZER: JOHN RITTER FOUNDATION FOR AORTIC HEALTH
EVENT: 2015 LA Marathon
EVENT DATE: Mar 15, 2015
I remember watching many episodes of Three’s Company between 1977 and 1984. I enjoyed watching John Ritter act on TV and in movies – he always made me smile.
When John suddenly died in 2003 from an aortic dissection, I was stunned and saddened. Like many people, I paid attention to the news to find out what exactly happened to him. I really didn’t understand what an aortic dissection is until 3 – 4 years ago when my wife, Tracy, began working as a genetic counselor and worked with the John Ritter Foundation for Aortic Health (JRF). Since then, I have gained a basic level of understanding of the disease and have been part of the “Support Crew” for Team Ritter runners who advocate and support the JRF by running a race and raising funds.
I have been a runner since 1985 and have raced in over 200 races of various distances but never in support of a charity. The JRF has been selected to be a charity partner for the ASICS LA Marathon on March 15, 2015. This is a perfect opportunity for me to support the foundation by running the 2 person relay (the ASICS LA Marathon has a relay in addition to the marathon) where each person runs a distance similar to a half marathon.
This is a great opportunity to raise awareness and funds for the JRF while participating as a runner, and I can’t think of a better way to show my support.
