I am beyond excited to have the opportunity to run the 2015 Boston Marathon. I am running for Challenge Unlimited at Ironstone Farm. Ironstone Farm is an 18-acre farm in Andover, MA that provides therapeutic, educational and recreational opportunities using horses, riding, and the working farm environment to help people achieve optimum quality of life. Horseback riding improves normal walking movements, strengthened trunk control, better balance and coordination, muscle tone and increased stamina. Some of the disabilities served at Ironstone Farm are attention deficit disorder, autism, cancer, Down syndrome, stroke, and many more. Ironstone Farm also provides riding for teens at risk by building positive connections with adults, trusting others, and to build productive lives for themselves.
For the past 8 years I have been a second grade teacher in Burlington, MA. I work with students with many different disabilities. Each year, second grade students with autism are integrated into my classroom for different subjects and projects. It has been an amazing experience to work with these students and see their academic and social progress throughout the year. My students participate in many therapies in and out of school. I am interested in learning more about the ways my students are supported and giving back to a program that helps them, too.
I am asking you to consider donating to my cause and Challenge Unlimited. Any amount helps and is greatly appreciated. Please share this with family, friends, and colleagues to spread the word. I am also hosting two fundraisers in March.
