Super excited to have you be a part of my first marathon. As a New Yorker, this race has always been a big part of my life. In fact, one of my earliest childhood memories is standing with my mom and brother watching my dad cross the finish line.
Every year after that, I would go with my father to Central Park to watch the leaders come across the finish line. It was always such a special day for me, hearing my dad reflect and reminisce about his marathon, as we waited in the stands for the runners to arrive.
I remember my dad using running as an analogy for anything and everything in life. The principles of breathing, focus, taking it one step at a time, clearing your mind, connecting with your environment, and setting a goal, were all part of what made running so meaningful and relevant. Of course the best part of my dad being a runner was probably the $20 I could earn by giving him an hour long foot massage after a long run.
Well I’m not a kid anymore and on my 30th birthday this year I made a commitment to be more socially engaged, support organizations whose ideals I believe in, and to improve my personal fitness.
So I'm writing to you because while I might be the one running 26.2 miles, it doesn't mean anything unless we do this together. You might not notice one person running down the street, but when 47,000 people take over New York City together, it's an exciting and electric feeling and I want you to be a part of it. So if you can't get out there and run with me, I'd love to have you be a part of my team by donating any amount you can.
Thank you for your support as I (literally) follow in my dad’s footsteps. I know how proud it will make him to watch me cross the finish line, and how proud I’ll feel knowing I did it with your support, for a great cause.
