THE PURPOSE AND GOAL: This year is the OC Marathon's 10 Anniversary Race. Over the past 9 years, The OC Marathon has grown and changed to become community event focused on the health and wellness of our youngest citizens, Orange County youth. As an organization committed to furthering similar interests, the Junior League of Orange County, California (“JLOCC”) is supporting the 2014 OC Marathon. The JLOCC is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. The JLOCC’s trained volunteers actively support the community through collaboration with organizations, like the OC Marathon, that promote and support the health, safety and education of all individuals.
As an OC Marathon supporter, the JLOCC has committed to fielding a team of at least 20 runners and providing a minimum of 40 volunteers for the event. The JLOCC is also looking to raise at least $10,000. These efforts benefit the JLOCC, and in turn, support our Mission and community projects.
JLOCC COMMUNITY IMPACT: By supporting the OC Marathon, the JLOCC can reach thousands of enthusiastic runners and their families and friends who represent a fantastic community that supports better fitness, nutrition and obesity prevention among children. The OC Marathon Foundation supports over 65 schools and 4000 students to enroll in its Kids Run the OC Training Program.
The JLOCC effectively trains its 600+ volunteers to make an impact that will have a lasting benefit in Orange County. The JLOCC has also helped found organizations such as OneOC (formerly the Volunteer Center) and the Orangewood Children’s Foundation.
In 2012, our volunteer programs affected the lives of over 1,800 children in need. With your support, we can continue to help children and their families by developing programs and providing funds and volunteers to our community partners, which presently include The Academy of Orangewood Children’s Foundation, Crittenton Services for Children and Families, Orangewood Children’s Home, The Raise Foundation, Human Trafficking Education and Awareness, Blind Children’s Learning Center, and the Down Syndrome Foundation of Orange County.
THE RACE/EXPO: The event will take place on May 4, 2014, offering the opportunity for runners to participate in the Full Marathon, Half Marathon, and 5K. There is even a Kids Run the OC event to engage the youngest members of our community. With a beautiful course running through miles of OC landmarks, runners view the pristine beaches of Corona del Mar, the scenic Back Bay Estuary, the Orange County Performing Arts Center, South Coast Plaza and the OC Fair & Event Center.
The JLOCC may also host a booth at the Allergan Health and Fitness Expo on Sunday, May 4, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
As an exhibitor, the JLOCC will share information about the JLOCC, including the JLOCC’s mission and projects.
ATTENDANCE: In 2013, more than 20,000 runners participated in the marathon, half marathon, OC Wahoo's 5K and Kids Run the OC. Additionally, thousands of spectators lined the course and the start line, while an additional 30,000 attend the two-day Allergan Health & Fitness Expo which showcased national brands and state of the art footwear and training technology.
