EVENT: Joe Andruzzi Boston 2015
EVENT DATE: Apr 20, 2015
It's an honor once again to have been selected for the Joe Andruzzi Foundation (JAF) Boston Marathon Team and to have the opportunity to help this amazing UpBeat organization through fundraising efforts. JAF is an organization that provides help, hope, and a reason to smile for cancer patients and their families by contributing financial and emotional support when it is needed most.
Over the years JAF has helped hundreds of families get through some of the most difficult times in their lives. Just this year, the JAF supported my aunt by paying a months rent during the final stage of my uncles long, long battle with cancer. It was just one less burden to worry about, an amazing gift during a time of particular need.
Several years ago, my brothers nephew battled cancer and won. As his remission party neared, I reached out to the Andruzzi’s asking if Joe would be willing to visit. Without hesitation, arrangements were made for Joe and his oldest son to make a surprise appearance. As a 10 year old boy, their visit, along with Joe’s super bowl rings, created a memory that will last a lifetime.
Reflecting back, the 2013 Boston Marathon is one I will never forget. It started with uncontained excitement to be running , the weather was perfect and the crowds were incredible. I remember my happiness as I crossed the finish line to the cheers of my husband, children, family and close friends. I remember my tears of joy (literally) as I received my medal and headed to the family meeting area. I remember meeting my family who had left the VIP bleachers just after I crossed the finish line, just 18 minutes before the first bombing. My family and I also had tickets to attend a JAF fundraiser at Forum on Boylston Street after completing the marathon. Needless to say, we never made it to the event as as it was the site of the second bombing.
Last year, after training throughout the winter to run the 2014 Boston Marathon for the JAF, injury sidelined me about 7 weeks before race day. It was disappointing to not be able to run, but we all did return to Forum on race day to celebrate the strength of the running community, Boston and the JAF. I am looking forward to the opportunity to run and support this amazing organization once again.
Please help me reach my goal of raising $7,500 for JAF which will help at least 12 family's. Any and all support is greatly appreciated. No amount is too small.
