2013 was an incredible year for us. We were finally married on in June after almost a year of setbacks and challenges. Were had to push our wedding date back a few months because I lost a contract four month ahead of the end date. Then after landing a new contact we found out that we were expecting! Then the dream wedding in Hawaii had to be cancelled due to early pregnancy complications that kept Monique from being able to fly. So we decided to stay local to Oregon and have a beautiful ceremony and reception at a winery in the Willamete Valley. Weeks before we were supposed to tie the know, Monique was placed on bedrest at home and we were again forced to cancel our wedding. Then we agreed to I would break her out of bedrest for a few hours, have a few friends meet us at the courthouse and tie the knot at the Justice of the Peace. A week before that was supposed to happen Monique was placed on bed rest IN THE HOSPITAL on a Monday!! The next day on Tuesday we were hit with the devastating news that Monique's step-father had passed away. He was so happy to be havig a grand daughter as was trying to hold on as long as he could just to hear Zoie's cry. That night we cried as the emotional toll of death, pregnancy complications and delayed nuptials waved over us. We decided that our marriage will win out!!

The very next day, we had a visit from one of the hosptial administrators and we told her that we're getting married even if the judge has to come to this hospital room to do it!! And on that saturday June 15th, with the help of hospital staff, we were blessed with everything for a wedding in the hospital’s gardens, from a cake, desert bar, and a photographer. My mother caught a last minute flight to be there to walk both Monique and I down the aisle and a picture frame with Carvell's smiling face was in the aisle seat next to my mother. And as a treat, two hospital beds were pushed together in our room so that we can "honeymoon" close together.

Zoie was born a little over a month later on July 30th with every odd against her, but she made it and so did Monique. We haven't been able to have a honeymoon or vacation and we have an opportunity to go to Italy and have Monique's mother here to happily watch Zoie. We need help! Our goal is $6,000 to be able to take this trip in August 2014 to Italy. It has been our dream since we met to go and to make it our honeymoon and one year anniversary celebration will be a gift and a blessing to us that we will never forget.
