Iris Fund Half Marathon
EVENT DATE: Sep 30, 2018
Iris Crystal Aleman was born and died on July 15,2017. She died from complications of being born early. In the days and weeks after her passing our family was shocked to learn how little is known about even full term childbirth. The Iris Fund began soon after her passing. We support the doctors and scientists that are doing the research to first understand what causes full term childbirth and develop the novel therapies to stop childbirth from starting early.
Iris was named for the godess of the rainbow and the three petals of the flower (which symbolize; faith, valor, and wisdom). Her name was to serve as an anchor and a hope for her in life. Her name now serves that purpose through her legacy.
We are anchored by the reality that too little is known about labor and too many babies pay a price (500,000 babies are born premature every year in the U.S. alone). We live in the hope that we can help prevent premature birth- and get basic better answers on childbirth for all families.
