In May 2014 I traveled to Lobitos, in the deepest parts of Northern Peru as an invited guest artist joining a group of select individuals during a special audiovisual youth development program. Due to the success of this program I have chosen to create a larger more in depth project called "Incan Aloha" Part 2.
In August 2015 I will be leading a group of unique individuals from all over the world to Lobitos, Peru to aid in the philanthropic efforts by WAVES for Development.
There are many challenges faced by the people of Lobitos. This small, rural, coastal fishing village is barely equipped with many of the basic features of a developed community. WAVES has initiated dozens of special programs to help and aid within the community. Each person involved in this project will help out and contribute to the current programs in alternative ways, bringing a different skill or trade and perspective. In addition each person will help facilitate or lead one key project depending on their area of expertise. Some of the projects include a creative development workshop, sustainable fashion and goods class, mural project as well as a medical & basic health clinic.
Personal Project Info: I have lead a number of wonderful creative development workshops and mural projects including the one I did last year for the 1st Incan Aloha adventure. This year I will be joined by a few incredibly talented artist friends!
With the mural itself being the end product of this initiative, the true value lies in the process of its creation. Our goal is to utilize the collective extensive artistic knowledge and abilities to introduce the children to some of the fundamental concepts and practices of art and creativity, such as mixing colors, proper brush strokes and texture. The creation of the wall mural will be supplemented by workshops, led by Jared and other artist, which will teach the children these artistic lessons, among many others.
By serving a community that would likely never gain this sort of artistic exposure otherwise, the initiative has the potential to light a creative spark in the children that could manifest itself in a long term, or even lifelong, interest, hobby or passion in art or creativity. If this were to happen even for just one child, the effect that it could have on that individual’s life could be profound! This effect has already been proven through Lobitos local photo legend HENRY ESPINOZA PANTA!
During my time in Peru I shot a new body of work that is the first in an ongoing series exploring the sprit of ALOHA! Nearly the entire series was be shot on real Celluloid Film using my late Grandfathers over 50 year old 3rd Generation LEICA M3 camera to celebrate Leica 100 and the start to a lifelong relationship with one of the greatest camera manufactures in the world!
Any contribution large or small will be greatly appreciated!
Each person in the project is asked to raise money to aid in the programs survival and continue the work they do. All the money I raise with your help goes directly to expenses related to the WAVES programs in the communities where they serve. Like Education programs that develop youth into healthy & empowered adults and Surf Voluntourism programs that engage travelers & transform their views of the world and themselves. Other examples of these expenses include academic and creative materials, maintenance of their surf equipment and aid with food and lodging for families we stay with. Also helping to pay their small team of staff, cover local transportation, and cover grants from WAVES International to WAVES Peru.
All of my donations will receive a special creative surprise as a sign of gratitude. Items will vary depending on your amonut of ALOHA. Ranging from exclusive sticker packs and limeted edition prints to watercolor art postcards, original paintings and even a few Polaroids from the exihibtion/book project. These will be available in extremely limited quantities and editions.
In addition each Individual from the project may have their own unique rewards for donations. Please look at each for more details.
The 1st 5 donations to each person involved in the project over $10 will receive a FREE signed limited edition photo zine bonus gift. Containing exclusive content from the 1st and 2nd Incan Aloha adventures!
Much Aloha, Thank You and Enjoy!
