In developing countries, it's rare for a female to have the opportunity to attend & graduate college. Young Life leaders meet incredibly gifted young adults in their clubs across their 101 countries of activity. 10 years ago Young Life started the Developing Global Leaders Program, which gives young women (and men) the opportunity not just to get an education at a university in their country, ending the cycle of poverty in their lives, but to enter into a Christian leadership program in hopes of changing the culture of their country, fighting against corruption and compassionately loving others in the name of Jesus.
Now YOU get to be a part of it by running for one of these amazing young women. This program doesn't exist unless sponsors raise the funds for someone to go to college. Each student (cost-averaged) is $13,200 for the entire degree program. That's $3300/year ($275/month). Each year, Young Life, through individual sponsors, gives 100 Full-Ride scholarships to students like you see below. Our hope is that each race would raise enough to fully support one student.
Here's what you do:
1. Pick your race (Dallas on November 10th, Houston on January 20th or Sugar Land, TX on February 3). Each race has a corresponding DGL student you are running for.
2. Commit to raising a minimum of $500 for your DGL student (and no we don't penalize you if you fall short). Ask your friends via text, social media, etc. to support you at $50-100 or more for running.
3. We'll send you the New Balance Running Shirt with the logo to run in for the race (and train in). Just email or text your team captain with your shirt size.
We'll eat together the night before, we'll start the race together the day of, and we'll celebrate afterward.
Not in Houston or Dallas? We are looking for Team Captains in Atlanta, Tampa, Phoenix and Colorado Springs. Contact KEdelbrock@intl.younglife.org if you're interested.
