BENEFITING: Human Rights Campaign NYC Marathon Team
ORGANIZER: Human Rights Campaign NYC Marathon Team
EVENT: Marine Corps Marathon 2015
EVENT DATE: Oct 25, 2015
As you may know, I have been training for the Marine Corps Marathon this year as part of the Athletes for Equality program, which supports the work of the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRCF). On October 25th, I will run 26.2 miles in an effort to bring about a better world.
This has been an incredible year of change. Loving same sex couples can now get married in every state of the union. However, there’s still so much to be done. In 30 states, you can still be fired for being lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender. An increasing number of countries are criminalizing people for who they love or their core identity.
HRCF is trying to make the world a safer, more accepting place for LGBT people by:
Encouraging employers to adopt best practices for inclusion in the work place;
Ensuring that LGBT patients and their families receive welcoming, competent care in hospitals;
Training educators at all levels on how to prevent bullying in schools;
Providing communities of faith with the tools to talk about LGBT people in a loving and inclusive way.
HRCF is working on all these issues and so much more. I am running 26.2 miles in part because I want to see these changes happen.
So I’m asking you to support me in making change. Donating through this website is simple, fast and secure. It is also the most efficient way to support my fundraising efforts. And all donations are tax-deductible.
Many thanks for your support. And give me a mental cheer on October 25th.
