HikeMF......With Research there is Hope!
HikeMF is an organization that sponsors an annual hike with the sole purpose of raising funds for non-profit organizations that fund research for MPNs, including Myelofibrosis.
Myelofibrosis is a rare bone marrow cancer. It is one of a related group of blood cancers known as “myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs)” in which bone marrow cells that produce the blood cells develop and function abnormally. (LLS)
MPNs include, Myelofibrosis, Essential Thrombocythemia and Polycythemia Vera.
There is no substantive cure!
After exhaustive research, we learned that many patients are in a desperate situation with little hope for a cure. It is because of this urgency, that HikeMF was formed.
It is imperative that a cure be found!
HikeMF was formed in 2015 and due to your generosity more than $105,000 has been raised to advance MPN research. I would like to thank you all for your support, including those who volunteer or donate raffles. You are the ones who make this possible!
HikeMF is 150 plus hikers strong and growing. We at HikeMF truly appreciate your support and generosity.
This quote from fellow MPN patient, Mary Cotter sums up living with an MPN.
“I know how variable and unpredictable this road can be. Hiking is a great metaphor for our MPN journey. Some trails are long wide and indolent, while others are short and rocky. Our MPN 'weather' can be sunny and glorious but turn treacherous without warning.”
It was because of this uncertainty and no cure on the horizon that my sister and cofounder Lori Small and I formed HikeMF. We hike to advance research, we hike in support of those living with an MPN and we hike in memory of those who are no longer with us.
Unfortunately, there is still no cure, but we at HikeMF are steadfast in our mission to support research to find viable treatments and hopefully one day a cure for MPNs, including Myelofibrosis.
You can make a difference!
