A group of MommiesRfitter's are getting together to run in the Missoula Marathon and Half-Marathon in Missoula, MT July 13, 2014. We decided to support a local non-profit to help give back to our veterans who suffer from physical and mental scars after a 13 year long war. Below is more information about Heroes and Horses. We hope you will support our cause!
HEROES AND HORSES:
We are not defined by our many scars, but by what we do after the wounds close!
Heroes & Horses believes that the warrior profession, and all those who choose a life of service are strong, confident men and women. They are the backbone of this great nation. Our mission is to reinforce this understanding that heroes are not just those on the front lines today, but also those who have come home from yesterday's front lines. Through challenges, inspiration, and our varied experience that binds us together, we will lead those who will follow. We will bind together with cords that cannot be broken. We will stand alongside our heroes and show them that true greatness never fades into the past. The Heroes & Horses program will re-forge these great men and women by harnessing the raw power of mind, spirit and body and through challenging situations that will require exertion, stamina, and mental prowess to overcome . Our mission is to show that growth of any kind always equals life, that no situation no matter how adverse, devastating, or life-changing should define "hero" but should instead reinforce it . Victory is not given, it is taken. Greatness is not born, it is developed through experience!
The Heroes and Horses Veterans Program is designed as a seven day, intensive, instructional program with a stay at a true working ranch. During each Ranch Week, veterans are taught horse handling, horsemanship, riding, backcountry horse packing, backcountry camp setup, and mountain trail skills. The progression of instruction and knowledge is ultimately utilized during a 4-day overnight backcountry pack trip into some of the most rugged and remote wilderness in the lower 48 states. Exposing our war veterans to new experiences and to the awe-inspiring, spectacular beauty of the mountains here in Montana and across the Rockies is just one aspect of the life-changing adventure that our heroes encounter. Instruction takes place "During Summer Months" in Bozeman, Montana and surrounding lands, offering miles of riding trails and recreational opportunities including fishing, floating, hiking, hunting, and other outdoor activities. Former US Navy SEALs Micah Fink and Nick Hays and Professional Packer Mark White have joined together to give veterans the opportunity to experience the mountains and horses in a way never before imagined.
