From the minute I heard about him, I was amazed by Richard Stefanacci's strength. Even though I never had a chance to meet him, I followed this 14-year-old boy's fight against cancer through his father's blog and felt like I knew him. We share a common friend who had told me about Richard's diagnosis and I checked out the blog frequently to see how he was doing. I was so saddened to hear that he lost his battle after over a year of fighting, but when you read about Go4theGoal, you'll see that his family hasn't ever stopped fighting.
When I finally met Richard's mom, Beth, this summer I couldn't get over the strange coincidences in key dates I had with Richard. He was diagnosed on May 17, 2006, the same date and year that my father passed away and Richard passed away on June 12, 2007 which is my mom's birthday. Then I found out that the Hamptons Half Marathon is on September 27- Richard's birthday!
I don't run, but co-workers tried to convince me to try a half marathon this fall. When I went to the informational meeting, I was not sold on it. But then another strange coincidence- I ran into Richard's mom, found out I could run for the charity, and once realized it was on Richard's birthday, I had to do it! It was fate! I'm so excited to be raising money for Go4theGoal. Please visit the website to learn about all of the wonderful things this organization does to improve the lives of children battling cancer.
Please make you donation below- every dollar goes directly to Go4theGoal- not only because this is a fabulous organization created in memory of a very special boy, but because I am somehow going to run (slowly!) 13.1 miles for him!
