Friends and family: You know that I may or may not have previously uttered the phrase "over my dead body" and "half marathon" in the same sentence, but...
I'm running the Chicago Half Marathon for HRW's Health and Human Rights Division, which works to protect people who are hurting, poor and isolated people who all too often bear the brunt of the suffering from policies that do not respect the right to health.
So, in the spirit of fundraising, I'm asking you to consider donating $10 (a Friday night cocktail) or whatever you can afford. My team and I will be so grateful.
For a donation of $25+, you can pick ANY song and I'll add it to my running playlist. I encourage you to get creative.
All jokes aside, connecting health to human rights is a cutting-edge area of the human rights movement and there are so many issues the team could cover with additional funds. Thank you!
P.S. - Here is a video highlighting a recent example of the HHR team's work that gives voice to the thousands of residents of a poor urban district in Kenya, who face serious health consequences from toxic lead from a battery recycling plant. The crisis is the result of the Kenyan government's failure to adequately regulate the lead smelter. Just a small taste of the great work they do!
