BENEFITING: Huntington's Disease Society of America, Inc.
EVENT DATE: Nov 01, 2015
Let's raise some money! We need your help. We are raising a ton of funds and awareness, for HD and HDSA.
On November 1, 2015 we will be running the NYC Marathon, with the HDSA team.
HD is a degenerative disease. It is a disease which something that eats away at families. It effects generation, after generation, after generation with a 50% chance of being at risk of inhereiting the gene. Acoording to the Mayo Clinic website- " Huntington's disease is an inherited disease that causes the progressive breakdown (degeneration) of nerve cells in the brain. Huntington's disease has a broad impact on a person's functional abilities and usually results in movement, thinking (cognitive) and psychiatric disorders."
My family is one of those families, who have been impacted by this disease. My grandmother had the gene. She passed away at the age fof 41 . Of her five children, two inherited the gene. My Dad, and my Uncle. My dad was diagnosed at 37, when I was 8. I was 11 when I was told, the actual name of what he had was HD. My Dad passed away in 2009, after a long battle. My uncle passed away in 2011.
With something like HD, your family is put in a pressure cooker. Its about the support as well, like my mom, the glue of the family. I am challenging myself to this run and fundraising for my daughter. Her mom is healthy and can run marathons! . This is an opportunity to be a part of something big. We can work together, and everyone is a part of this positive experience, by donating. Thank you in advance for the support.
