ORGANIZER: GIRLS ON THE RUN NYC
EVENT DATE: Mar 20, 2016
Stef & Dor run the 2016 NYC Half in support of Girls on the Run NYC!
What is Girls on the Run?
Girls on the Run is a non-profit after school program for elementary and middle school girls that instills joy, health and confidence using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Each season ends with a celebratory 5k run/walk.
What does Girls on the Run do?
One girl put it this way, "I learned that I am the boss of my brain." Girls on the Run inspires girls to take charge of their lives and define the future on their terms. It’s a place where girls learn that they can. No limits. No constraints. Only opportunities to be remarkable.
What does Girls on the Run mean to Stef & Dor?
Over the past two years Stef has had the privilege to volunteer with Girls on the Run in various capacities, including as a Girls 5k Sparkle Runner, Running Buddy and Race Photographer! The more she gets involved with the organization, the more she wishes she had been involved in a program like this as a kid. As an avid runner, she truly believes in the power of running as a positive tool to build mental and physical strength, at ANY age! Stef is extremely pumped to be running her 2nd half marathon this March. This time means even more to her because she'll be running to raise money for a very special organization: Girls on the Run NYC!
Dorothy started working with Girls on the Run NYC in 2013, and is currently the Business Operations Coordinator for the organization. This past Fall she was grateful to be a part of the Girls on the Run mission in a different capacity by coaching at a program site in the East Village - "it made seeing the Girls cross the finish line at the 5k even more special!" She looks forward to supporting Girls on the Run NYC in another way - by being a SoleMate Charity Athlete!
