There are no words to describe what yesterday meant to me, what I feel now, and how this experience has truly changed my life. I am forever thankful  See more

THE STORY:

The first time I watched the Boston Marathon, I can vividly remember seeing faces of pure determination as runners ran by tackling the first of the Newton hills.  As they passed by, and we rang our cowbells, I held a big poster waiting to cheer on my dad. I always felt this overwhelming sense of excitement and thrill being at the race on Patriot’s Day in Boston.  While watching the race, I knew I wanted to be like all those other runners, but especially like my dad- experiencing all the pain and sense of accomplishment that comes with running Boston.

Fast forward, I started training and finished my first half marathon in 2012, during my freshman year of college. After completing that, I set my sights on a bigger goal - I knew I wanted to run Boston.  I trained for the 2013 race, but due to the horrific events that took place that day at the finish line I was ushered off the course around mile 20.  Two years later I finally finished my first marathon. When I crossed the finish line at the Baystate race, it didn’t really hit me what I had just accomplished. I think it was bittersweet because I always envisioned myself finishing a marathon after taking a right on Hereford and a left on Boylston.

This time my Boston Marathon journey is going to be so much more about the girls I am running for than it will be about myself. To have the humbling opportunity to run and fundraise on behalf of health and fitness initiatives for girls in Eastern MA is what is going to motivate me to get up every Saturday morning, in the snow and sleet, to run. To show them that you can do whatever you set your mind to do.

2013 wasn’t the year for me to run Boston, but now in 2017, four years later, I am ready to take on the course that means so much to me, for the cause that I am beyond passionate about. It thrills me to write this, I will be running the 2017 Boston Marathon for the Girls Scouts of Eastern MA. Please support me in this journey by helping me raise funds so that all girls who find themselves standing on that same hill in Newton and envision themselves crossing the finish line have the opportunity to do so.
