On April 9, 2016 I will turn 40. It's a milestone birthday for many reasons and I wanted to find a way to appropriately celebrate it with an epic challenge, but also support a worthy cause.
My life has been filled with adventures and at the center has always been the outdoors. Experiences in the outdoors have transformed my life and taught me countless lessons. It's given me confidence and also provided a good dose of humility. It's taught me to challenge myself and how to fail successfully. It's taught me how to be a leader and how to contribute to a common goal.
Mostly, it's taught me how to be a better person. All that I continue to learn from my adventures and challenging myself helps me be the best father to my two little girls. So on August 13 of 2016 I'll attempt to summit 14,411 foot Mount Rainier, and it won't be a selfish pursuit.
I've turned my attempt into a fundraiser to support Big City Mountaineers an organization that transforms the lives of under-resourced urban youth through wilderness mentoring expeditions that instill critical life skills.
Imagine for a minute not being able to experience the outdoors or never having set foot in nature. For many, this is a reality. Through this climb and with your support, we can provide that opportunity to hundreds of underprivileged kids and help expand their worlds and potential.
Thank you for your support.
