BENEFITING: COMMITTEE AGAINST ANTI ASIAN VIOLEN CE
EVENT DATE: May 30, 2015
Do you believe: Everyone should have a right to housing? Everyone should have the right to have their issues heard, regardless of what language they speak? Everyone should feel safe in their community?
Sounds like basic human rights, right? We believe that low-income Asian immigrants deserve all of the above, but because of gentrification, poor public housing conditions, and police violence.
CAAAV builds the leadership of low-income immigrant and refugee Asian communities to fight for institutional change towards racial, gender, and economic justice. Their work this year includes:
- strategically organizing against large and ruthless landlords and developers in Chinatown;
- advancing the Fight for Equitable Rezoning Campaign so we rezone to protect NYC’s affordable housing in the Lower East Side and Chinatown;
- releasing a report on language access issues impacting pan-Asian immigrants in public housing and deepening our base at Queensbridge Public Housing;
- organizing against police violence as members of Communities United for Police Reform and Peoples’ Justice for Community Control and Police Accountability coalitions.
They do all of this with the support of people like you. Let's celebrate their work together!
