It’s hard to believe that it is time for the 2018 26.2 with Donna Fundraising to go in high gear already but here we are! In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness month, FIS has named October 6th FIS Global Go Pink Day to encourage early detection and treatment. As part of FIS’ commitment to finishing breast cancer, FIS is also officially sponsoring the 2018 DONNA Booby Trap Challenge where participants will run a 5k, a 10k and either of half or full marathon during 10th Anniversary Marathon Weekend Feb 9 – 11, 2018. Go Team FIS!
This will be my 6th year to participate in the 26.2 with Donna National Marathon to Finish Breast Cancer! I am so honored to fundraise for this race as it has had a direct impact on my survivorship from Breast Cancer. It has been 5 years since my diagnosis and I remain cancer free! If it weren't for the research by Dr. Perez at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville, my outlook would have been far different than what it is today. Due to her discovery of the benefits of Herceptin with triple positive breast cancer, I now have a greater than 80% survival rate whereas I would have only had a 20% chance of beating this deadly disease prior to Herceptin's inclusion in my treatment. I have met Dr. Perez and she is an absolutely amazing woman and I am 100% certain that her work will be a part of the cure for breast cancer in my lifetime. I can't thank everyone enough for your support to finish this disease and I will continue to run until we reach the finish! As a result of your direct support, we have donated over $200,000 since my diagnosis towards research and care for those dealing with the disease.
I am looking forward to crossing the finish line of the 2018 marathon cancer free to commemorate my milestone of winning over breast cancer!
